Why we exist

Loneliness and isolation are real and growing. In response, we’re creating communities focused on love, growth, and service.

The challenge

How can we respond to loneliness and social isolation? Loneliness and isolation are hitting young adults hard:

  • 22% of folks in their twenties have zero friends; and,

  • 50-70% of Americans experience social isolation.

Covid has just made everything worse. Sometimes it feels like we live in a world with a lot of connectivity, but not much connection. God’s vision for us is one of community, not isolation--so how do we build communities we actually want to live in? What does a life well-lived look like in today’s world?

Our response

We start and cultivate communities focused on love, growth, and service. At UEC we think the antidote to isolation is belonging — and we start communities that welcome everyone.

We think the best way to build community is through stories and meals. Stories from our lives, our histories, and Holy Scripture help root us in who we really are. Meals around the kitchen table and the altar table give us the strength to keep going. UEC is a ‘community of communities’ — scroll on to find five communities where you can get involved.
